Hello all Croquetnuts
Sadly I got my news out too late.... the weather was kind to us yesterday for play, but, we did not get to celebrate with mimosas. Something about all of those thunderstorms heading our way got in the way of an official celebration to start the season, so we will be ready next Monday.
That means, come out and grab a glass to toast the start of the season, then put it down and grab your mallet for some fun.
Yesterday we did have a "shoot out" and Alan McDonald performed his magic. He made it look easy making that wicket. He is one fine player.
Hope everyone had a good time at dinner afterwards. The offerings in the main dining room are great and we hope that as the season progresses, we can fill some more tables.
So next week, come play and stay for dinner afterwards. Be sure to make your dinner reservations!

Rain, rain, go away.....
Welcome back to all Croquetnuts!
It is raining this morning at Lake Toxaway, but hopefully we will have a break in the weather today for our first Wine and Wickets. We hope to see you there for a mimosa courtesy of Susan Bagwell. We have a great menu that you can explore in the main dining room this year.
You can come at 3:00 for some mentoring and the play begins at 3:30. We hope to see you there dressed in your finest whites! Remember to make your reservations for dinner too.

Last W & W COOKOUT - Sept 26
Well our season is rapidly coming to an end. It really seems like only yesterday we were starting. But the cool weather and cool colors are welcomed. Remember that our annual 50/50 sponsored Cookout on the Porch is after Monday's wine and wickets. We will start around 6 and we have volunteer crews setting everything up and doing the grilling. The menu is Hamburgers, Brats, Mac and Cheese, Cole Slaw, Chips, Drinks and all the condiments for good fixins. The club is keeping the bar open for alcohol but I am sure we can tuck some drinks in our coolers on the porch. Soft drinks and water will already be there for us. Please make a reservation at the club so we can be sure we have enough food. Mary Lou did a great job with last year's event and I am positive this one will be no exception. See ya there all you CROQUENUTS!

Feast with Friends Photos, September 12
Dr David Joyce
Regina Davis
Reg Heinitsh Jr
Hello and kudos to all of you for attending the final installment of our Feast with Friends series. Thank you to Reg Heinitsh Jr. for his words of support for croquet and its impact here at Lake Toxaway. We couldn't have come this far without all of the fine collective efforts led by George and Jane Enochs. We had a great turnout once again with a fine speaker, Dr David Joyce. Following his presentation, we were serenaded in song by Regina Davis with her beautiful voice. It is inspiring to know that we have such talent being educated in our area of North Carolina.

Wine and Wickets September 12 and Feast with Friends following
This is a reminder to come play Monday, September 12! After being rained out on the 5th, we can put our game faces back on to play in this beautiful weather we are having now.
Please reserve your spot for the Feast with Friends too. We are looking forward to the program entitled, "So, You Want to Major in Philosophy? Are You Crazy?" , which will be given by the incoming President of Brevard College, Dr. David Joyce. We have another guest, Regina Davis, who attended Brevard College. She will lend us her beautiful voice in song.
Bring your friends and family to this final Feast with Friends. We are very fortunate to have these events available to us.

Second All Mountain Golf Croquet Tournament
Just in case any of you missed this email from Don Molitor, here it is again preserved in the blog. I think it sums up the All Mountain Golf Croquet Tournament event beautifully. Thank you Don for all of your work in making the Interclub Challenges such a success; we appreciate your work!

CroquetNuts All;
Congratulations!!! You all are winners.
Today we participated in the Second All Mountain Golf Croquet Tournament, held this year at the beautiful grounds and lawns of Chattooga CC. The participating clubs included Highlands, Burlingame, Chattooga and Lake Toxaway PLUS for the first time Cedar Creek and Trillium for a total of six clubs. Next year we may have an additional two clubs.
This out-bursting of interest [and enjoyment] in the sport of croquet has been led by the Lake Toxaway CC and its Lake Toxaway Mallet Club. All the clubs have discovered what our Club and its management have found that the addition of Croquet is both a fun pastime and additional amenity but also a good financial investment to retain membership and to recruit new members. A hardy thanks to the Lake Toxaway CC for providing our excellent lawns and for the commitment to the new lawns as well.
The Golf Croquet Tournament was not only well run, but also well played. Your “team” consisted of Les and Nancy Avera, George and Susan Bagwell, Raquel Ferrero, Bunny Jones, Jeanette Wilkes and Don Molitor. The scoring was for the total number of wickets by each player and a team total without regard to matches won or lost. The games were for 25 minutes OR to four [4] wickets whichever came first. The results found Lake Toxaway in first place with 72 wickets and Highlands second with 66 wickets.
We owe a debt of gratitude to George and Jane Enochs for spear-heading the efforts to bring croquet to Lake Toxaway. Each of us CroquetNuts has enjoyed the sport and we look forward to next year when we will defend our title.
As this year winds down and we look forward to 2012 we can expect to have as many as eight clubs in the All Mountain group. Our interclub events this year was limited to four matches. It is my strong recommendation that we make every attempt to have one interclub match with each of the other seven clubs. This will take some dedication not only by our interclub planners but also each of our members to be a participant in at least one of the matches. Every club will field beginners as well as more experienced players for every match. Plan now to be part of the fun and to play an interclub match.
See you next year:
Don Molitor

Monday Feast with Friends, August 8
If you did not make it to the dinner on August 8 you missed a real treat. We had a wonderful evening with Bernie Marcus speaking. It was a great opportunity to hear a few inside stories on the building of such a grand structure. Thanks to Bernie and Billie for coming and thanks to all of you for attending and inviting your friends. Pictured here, from right, Kent Garner, Bernie Marcus, Dave Wilkes, Billie Marcus.
It is important to add that each month, Kent Garner helps to clean the aquarium, donning his scuba gear and all. I am content to stay on the other side of the glass!
